Religious freedom charity Open Doors UK has given an insight into what Christians in Syria may expect from the nation’s new constitution.
The new document grants sweeping powers to the presidency, with lack of clear safeguards to protect judicial and parliamentary independence.
Under new Article 3, ‘Islamic jurisprudence is the principal source of legislation’. Syria’s previous Constitution held Islamic law was simply ‘a main source’ of new legislation – that is, one of several sources.
