VP Vance confident ‘high-level’ TikTok deal will be reached by early April

Tasked with taking point by the president, Vice President J.D. Vance expressed optimism about a “high-level” outcome ahead of a TikTok deadline.

Unlike his yellow school bus-enamored predecessor who avoided addressing the border per then-President Joe Biden’s direction, the initial weeks of Vance’s role serving President Donald Trump have shown him to be more than a placeholder. Now, as an April 5 deadline extension loomed for TikTok to avoid a ban in the United States, the vice president shared his confidence an agreement would be met that “satisfies our national security concerns.”

The remarks were given during an NBC News interview aboard Air Force Two as he stated, “There will almost certainly be a high-level agreement that I think satisfies our national security concerns, allows there to be a distinct American TikTok enterprise.”

On his first day back in office, Trump had instructed the attorney general to wait at least 75 days before taking action against TikTok per the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act enacted during the Biden administration over national security concerns regarding the Chinese-based owner ByteDance and connections to the Chinese Communist Party.

Vance emphasized the scope of the negotiating process as he told NBC News, “Typically, some of these deals that are much smaller and involve much less capital take months to close.”

“We’re trying to close this thing by early April. I think that the outlines of this thing will be very clear. The question is whether we can get all the paper done,” he added.

Along with the vice president, served by his background in venture capitalism and connections in Silicon Valley, efforts to complete a deal for a U.S.-based buyer were being worked on by National Security Adviser Michael Waltz.

“We’d like to get it done without the extension. I think the question is, what is the equity ownership of the new joint venture? How do you do the contracts for all the investors, the customers, the service providers?” posited Vance. “The deal itself will be very clear, but actually creating those thousands and thousands of pages of legal documents, that’s the one thing that I worry could slip.”

“I think whether it’s through an extension, or whether it’s through actually just getting the deal in place satisfies the national security concerns, I think we’re going to be in a place where we can say TikTok is operational, and it’s also operational in a way that’s protective of Americans’ data privacy and America’s national security,” added the vice president.

A week earlier, the president had been asked about whether there was going to be a deal while aboard Air Force One. In response, he told the press, “There could be. We’re dealing with four different groups, and a lot of people want it, and it’s up to me. So, there could be.”

Among the interested parties, NBC News reported that Wyoming entrepreneur Reid Rasner’s Omnivest Financial had offered nearly $47.5 billion. Additionally, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian had joined the Project Liberty venture with billionaire Frank McCourt and Kevin O’Leary of “Shark Tank” who were making their own run at acquiring the social media platform.

In addition to his efforts on TikTok, Vance had been considered integral in whipping the votes for the confirmations of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

Further, from his numerous appearances on corporate media to the fiery exchange in the Oval Office with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the vice president has demonstrated his active role in the administration.
