Van Jones marvels at ‘volcanic anger’ Dems spewed at Schumer over shutdown sellout

The full fury of the political left was unleashed on one of their own when Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) refused to go along with the party’s attempt to shut down the federal government, which has now failed.

Schumer’s announcement that he wouldn’t support a filibuster to prevent the House’s continuing resolution from getting a full Senate vote unleashed a torrent of vitriol at the longtime leader with the intensity being unusual in that it would normally be reserved for President Donald J. Trump or Elon Musk, causing CNN’s Van Jones to marvel at the “volcanic anger” directed at the New York Democrat.

“Van, how angry are Democrats at Leader Schumer?” Jones was asked by anchor Erin Burnett on Friday’s edition of “OutFront” as leftist fury built to a crescendo over “traitor” Schumer.

“I’ve never seen this level of volcanic anger at a Democrat, ever,” the former Obama official responded. “Ever!”

“We can be grumpy, we can be frustrated with each other, there is a volcanic eruption of outrage at leader Schumer because we want a Mitch McConnell,” Jones continued. “I remember when Obama had all the cards, Mitch McConnell drove Obama nuts, twisted his pinky, broke his kneecaps, and got stuff done for Republicans when they shouldn’t have gotten an inch, they got miles.”

“We have a Senate majority leader who is beloved in this party, but we want somebody who’s gonna stand up to this bully,” he said of Trump. “Stand up to this bully, do something, and if you shut the government down and it gets a little bit crazy, it at least… some politics is about the rationality. There’s an emotional need to stop Donald Trump and Elon Musk from running over this party and I think Chuck Schumer has radically misread the room.”

Hours later, the Republican funding bill passed the full Senate 54-46, a big early victory for Trump who backed the CR that the disloyal opposition party was furiously trying to torpedo, even if it hurt hundreds of millions of Americans.

Schumer may have been vilified by his fellow Democrats after thwarting the filibuster – which Democrats have now developed a love for after previously trying to eliminate – but he did draw high praise from Trump.

“Congratulations to Chuck Schumer for doing the right thing — Took “guts” and courage! The big Tax Cuts, L.A. fire fix, Debt Ceiling Bill, and so much more, is coming. We should all work together on that very dangerous situation. A non pass would be a Country destroyer, approval will lead us to new heights. Again, really good and smart move by Senator Schumer. This could lead to something big for the USA, a whole new direction and beginning!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

It was like waving a red cape in front of an angry bull, and Schumer’s Democrat colleagues won’t soon forget it, with some already coming very close to calling for his ouster from leadership.

Will Schumer survive? It’s uncertain but the knives are out and there are reports that AOC may be eying his Senate seat.
