US revoking legal status, work permits for over 500K migrants flown in under Biden parole program

The legal status of over half a million Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan migrants is set to be revoked by the Trump administration effective next month.

The 530,000 migrants were granted two-year “parole” under former President Joe Biden’s CHNV Parole program in late 2022.

In a notice posted to the Federal Register on Friday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote that they now have until April 24th to self-deport and report their deportation via the CBP Home app:

The CBP Home app gives aliens the option to leave now and self deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future and live the American dream. If they don’t, we will find them, we will deport them, and they will never return.

Noem added that those migrants who refuse to voluntarily self-deport will be sought out and forcefully deported the hard way.

In a statement, a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson defended the program by arguing that the migrants allowed via CHNV were both “loosely vetted” and also undercutting American workers.

“The termination of the CHNV parole programs, and the termination of parole for those who exploited it, is a return to common-sense policies, a return to public safety, and a return to America First,” they said.

A report released last November by the House Judiciary Committee revealed that the CHNV program was an “unmitigated disaster” riddled with fraud.

“[T]he Biden-Harris Administration’s unlawful CHNV program is plagued by so much fraud that DHS itself was forced to pause the program in July 2024,” the report reads.

“An internal DHS report on the CHNV parole program found, among other major problems with supporter applications, that ‘forms from those applying for the program included social security numbers, addresses[,] and phone numbers being used hundreds of times in some cases,’” the report continues.

According to Fox News, the fraud was extensive.

“100,948 forms were filled out by 3,218 serial sponsors—those whose number appears on 20 or more forms,” Fox News notes. “24 of the 1,000 most used numbers belonged to a dead person. Meanwhile, 100 physical addresses were used between 124 and 739 times on over 19,000 forms.”

Despite these findings, the Biden administration restarted CHNV just a month later, sparking outrage from congressional Republicans like House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark E. Green.

“It should come as no surprise that the Biden-Harris administration has rushed to restart its unlawful CHNV mass-parole scheme, despite the clear evidence of fraud permeating the program,” Green said in a statement at the time.

“The CHNV program, along with the use of the CBP One app at the Southwest border, has helped the president and his border czar play a massive shell game, encouraging otherwise-inadmissible aliens to simply cross at ports of entry instead of between them,” he added.

Unlike the Trump administration’s CBP Home app, which is designed for migrants self-deporting, CBP One was a Biden-administration creation designed to help migrants more easily enter the United States.

“Instead of scrapping the clearly flawed program, the department is allowing it to continue without rooting out the fraud or putting adequate safeguards in place to prevent exploitation by sponsors here in the United States,” Green continued. “But fundamentally, there would be no fraud to prevent if DHS simply stopped importing 30,000 inadmissible aliens every month in the first place.”

Since January 2023, more than 1.3 million inadmissible aliens have been granted entry through the illegal CBP One and CHNV mass-parole programs President Biden and his “border czar” Vice President Harris have created.

Returning to the present, leftist groups that advocate on behalf of migrants and illegal aliens are of course apoplectic over the Trump administration’s latest move.

“Let’s be clear: Suddenly revoking the lawful status of hundreds of thousands of CHNV humanitarian parole recipients is going to cause needless chaos and heartbreak for families and communities across the country,” so-called Justice Action Center founder and director Karen Tumlin said in a statement.

“The Administration’s targeting of this successful and popular process—one of the last remaining safe and lawful pathways—is reckless, cruel and counterproductive,” she added.
