The Probation Service marches on with its rules on prioritising bail for minorities. At the same time it is filling its ranks with diversity officers. Yorkshire and The Humber Probation Service is currently hiring an Equalities Officer for £31,000 whose “aim is to promote equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging for staff and people on probation.” Nicely vague…
Hurry, applications close in two days. The officer will attend meetings “from time to time using inclusive and appropriate skills and styles” as well as managing “an annual calendar of awareness events to promote the equality and diversity agenda.” Diversity material is also to be handed to Probation Delivery Units in the region. With £31,000 you could:
- Train three prison officers.
- Fill 431 potholes.
- Purchase 31 British Army standard issue SA80 rifles.
The MoJ is already spending hundreds of thousands on diversity training in prisons. The taxpayer may have a view on which should be prioritised. Double the tiers, double the bills…
