Trump says tariffs on medicine coming

President Trump announced that pharmaceuticals will be the next target of his tariffs, which he says will bring pharmaceutical production back to the United States.

Speaking at the National Republican Congressional Committee dinner Tuesday evening, Mr. Trump railed against the cost of pharmaceuticals.

“The same package in our country compared to, like, London and other places is sometimes 10 times more,” he said. “Something that sells for $88 in London sells for $1,300 here, made in the same factory by the same company and that’s over. I told them all it’s over.”

“We’re going to do something that we have to do,” he said. “We’re going to tariff our pharmaceuticals and once we do that they’re going to come rushing back into our country because we’re the big market.”

Mr. Trump has already placed tariffs on various goods, including steel, aluminum and automobiles.

He touted the benefits of the tariffs, saying that they’re bringing in “$2 billion a day,” despite most going into effect Wednesday at midnight.
