President Trump said Monday that he will travel to the Middle East for the first overseas trip of his second term.
Mr. Trump told reporters that he plans to travel to Saudi Arabia and Qatar, with a possible stop in the United Arab Emirates. He added that other countries may be added to the trip at a later date.
The president did not specify when the trip would take place, saying, “It could be next month, maybe a little bit later.”
Mr. Trump said the trip would be important to boost foreign investments in the United States. In January, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced that his kingdom plans to invest $600 billion in the United States over the next four years.
“I have a very good relationship with the Middle East,” Mr. Trump said.
The first foreign trip of Mr. Trump’s first term was also to the Middle East. He visited Saudi Arabia and Israel in May 2017, stopping on his way back in Italy for a meeting with Pope Francis and in Belgium for a NATO summit.
