Education Secretary Linda McMahon emphasized the Trump administration’s commitment to improving education across the United States, ensuring that all 50 states have the resources needed to enhance student achievement.

Speaking on Fox & Friends, McMahon discussed the administration’s approach to addressing education challenges, including efforts to support students in underperforming schools.

President Donald Trump is preparing to sign an executive order to dismantle the Department of Education, a move long supported by many in the Republican Party.

The president has made it “crystal clear” that he intends to follow through on this initiative.

McMahon reiterated the administration’s goal of returning control over education to the states while also looking into programs that could assist parents with children in “failing schools.”

“You know, when 70% of our students cannot read with proficiency, that’s just incredibly difficult to swallow, and he’s just not going to accept it,” McMahon said during her interview on Fox & Friends.

McMahon also stressed the importance of focusing on core subjects such as reading and science, noting that states like Louisiana and Mississippi have seen “great results” by implementing programs aimed at improving student performance.

With the planned dismantling of the Department of Education, McMahon acknowledged concerns among department employees about potential job losses.

However, she assured that the administration is working on solutions to help those affected find new employment opportunities.

“There are good off-ramps” for those impacted, she stated, adding that the administration would “like to help them” transition into other roles.

McMahon’s confirmation as Education Secretary was secured this week with a 51-45 vote in the Senate.

During her confirmation hearing, she voiced full support for Trump’s plan to abolish the Education Department. Shortly after being confirmed, she sent a memo reiterating her commitment to “send education back to the states.”

In alignment with Trump’s broader agenda to reshape federal policy, the administration recently launched an “End DEI” portal on the Department of Education’s website.

The portal allows parents to report instances of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives at public schools.

This move follows an executive order signed by Trump on his first day back in the White House, directing the elimination of DEI programs within the federal government.

As the Trump administration moves forward with its education reforms, the planned dismantling of the Department of Education represents a significant shift in federal education policy.
