Trans Radicals Hijack NYC School Meeting, Do the Macarena to Protest Fair Sports

A group of transgender rights activists has been repeatedly disrupting community education council meetings in Manhattan, using tactics ranging from heckling to silent dancing.

The disruptions, which have been ongoing for nearly a year, intensified last week when demonstrators performed the “Macarena” in protest of opposition to allowing biological males to compete in girls’ sports.

At the latest meeting of the Community Education Council (CEC) for District 2, approximately 100 protesters attended, interrupting discussions, heckling speakers, and even blowing bubbles. At one point, a demonstrator rushed the stage and sat down at the members’ dais.

During the public comment section, Jo Vitale, an attendee advocating for female athletes, attempted to speak but was met with an unusual protest.

The activists stood up and danced the “Macarena” in silence, many appearing out of sync with the rhythm of the 1990s dance hit.

“I am here to speak up for the female athletes who are intimidated by this nonsense that is occurring behind me, all the dancing and the buffoonery,” Vitale stated as the demonstrators continued their performance.

“I’m speaking up for the female athletes who do not want to have biological males competing with them,” she added.

The group has been regularly protesting at CEC 2 meetings since the advisory board passed Resolution 248, which calls for the city’s Department of Education (DOE) to review its policy allowing students to participate in sports based on gender identity rather than biological sex.

Despite the protests, the DOE has maintained its stance and has not announced any plans to reconsider the policy.

The demonstrations have become increasingly disruptive, with many of the activists reportedly not having children enrolled in District 2 public schools.

Before each meeting, the group organizes rallies, sometimes bringing doughnuts for supporters.

One of the leading figures behind the protests is Alaina Daniels, a transgender teacher who runs Trans Formative Schools, an after-school program for LGBTQ+ youth.

According to her website, Daniels is also working on opening a dedicated transgender middle school.

In preparation for the latest protest, the group held a “strategy and tactics briefing” and encouraged supporters to attend the CEC 2 meeting wearing pink, blue, and white—the colors of the transgender pride flag.

“Your physical presence makes the biggest impact,” an Instagram post from the group stated.

CEC 2 members have voiced frustration over the continued disruptions, noting that the protests prevent discussions on other pressing matters, such as academic performance and declining student enrollment.

“I appreciate their advocacy, but it’s completely misplaced,” said CEC 2 Vice President Leonard Silverman.

He pointed out that the resolution is not going to be repealed and that the DOE has already stated it will not conduct a policy review.

“But they still keep on showing up, and it’s really disruptive because it’s discouraged other parents from talking about other educational issues,” Silverman added.

At last week’s meeting, many attendees spoke in favor of two resolutions up for a vote. One resolution opposed Resolution 248, supporting the DOE’s current transgender sports policy.

The second resolution denounced President Donald Trump’s executive order aimed at curbing “radical indoctrination in K-12 schools.”

However, due to the disruptions, the meeting lost quorum, and votes on both resolutions were postponed.
