Top Civil Servants Spaff £23,000 on Catering and Event Hire for Themselves

Since the election the Civil Service has kept up with its initiative to train its most senior staff in leadership. It says it is “developing initiatives to support our senior leaders to develop their potential, developing the skills needed for the future, and match resources to meet critical gaps, whilst building an engaged, leadership community that inspires others.” Doesn’t look like there’s much appetite for that…

Two ‘Leadership Conferences’ were hosted by the government to that end. Both were at swanky venues – Summer’s conference on 23 July was at the DeVere Grand Connaught Room on Great Queen Street and Autumn’s on 10 October at the Royal Horseguards Hotel and One Whitehall Place. To add insult to injury only a total of 411 senior civil servants attended the two conferences. Seeing as the SCS numbers around 7,080 staff that’s an engagement rate of 5.8%. The rest presumably think they are already inspiring leaders…
