Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called on Democrats to “demonize” Elon Musk during a town hall held in Youngstown, Ohio, marking an escalation in his ongoing feud with the tech billionaire, as Fox News reported.
The event, part of Walz’s continued public appearances following the 2024 election cycle, turned to the topic of wealth, social media, and the Democratic Party’s messaging.

During his remarks, Walz referenced Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and currently serving as the head of the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Elon Musk Called This Financial News ‘Terrifying’
“We’re creating a false narrative for them that everybody is super rich and has Lamborghinis and life is easy,” Walz told the audience. “But that’s what we’re going to have to figure out in our society about social media and all those things.”
He continued:
“But I don’t think we should be the party that demonizes someone because they’re able to afford something. What we should demonize is people like Elon Musk and those people that do that. That’s different.”

Walz also emphasized that success should not be vilified outright, stating that it’s important for Democrats to send the message that financial achievement is acceptable.
“What my beef is, once you get successful, don’t be a greedy bastard and not pay your taxes.”
“What we should demonize is people like @ElonMusk.”

Walz and Musk have traded public remarks in recent weeks, with tensions mounting since an earlier town hall event in Wisconsin. At that event, Walz commented on Tesla’s stock performance, referencing a downturn tied to vandalism incidents at company locations.
“On the iPhone, they’ve got that little stock app. I added Tesla to it to give me a little boost during the day,” Walz joked while holding up his phone during the Wisconsin event titled, “The People vs Musk.”

Musk responded on social media, referring to Walz’s 2024 election loss and contrasting his own standing with that of Republican figures.
“Sometimes when I need a little boost, I look at the @JDVance portrait in the White House and thank the Lord,” Musk posted, referencing President J.D. Vance.

President Trump’s White House also joined the online response, using the opportunity to mock Walz’s remarks.
“When we need a little boost during the day at the White House, we walk around the corner from our office and admire these beautiful portraits,” read a post from the administration’s Rapid Response team.

The feud between Walz and Musk has become a flashpoint between prominent Democrats and figures aligned with the Trump administration, with both sides using social media and public appearances to continue exchanging jabs.
