The same judge suspending Trump deportations just got assigned to the Signal chat lawsuit

President Donald Trump is once again locking horns with U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg, who has been assigned to a watchdog organization’s lawsuit against the administration.

As BizPac Review previously reported, American Oversight has hit Trump administration officials with a lawsuit to “recover unlawfully deleted messages and prevent further destruction” of messages shared in the Signal group chat reported on by The Atlantic‘s Jeffrey Goldberg.

“This reported disclosure of sensitive military information in a Signal group chat that included a journalist is a five-alarm fire for government accountability and potentially a crime. War planning doesn’t belong in emoji-laden disappearing group chats. It belongs in secure facilities designed to safeguard national interests — something any responsible government official should have known. Our lawsuit seeks to ensure these federal records are preserved and recovered. The American people deserve answers and we won’t stop until we get them,” said American Oversight Interim Executive Director Chioma Chukwu.

Boasberg has been assigned to what is being called the “Signalgate lawsuit.”

“You really can’t script this. The same week the Trump admin invokes the state secrets privilege to deny Boasberg info, he is assigned the lawsuit over the Trump administration’s apparent carelessness with state secrets,” wrote Kyle Cheney, senior legal affairs reporter for Politico.

Trump has had issues with Boasberg before after the judge ordered him to return flights headed to Venezuela to return illegal immigrants, some of whom were deported under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. The president has even called for the judge’s impeachment in a Truth Social most from earlier in March.
