Texas is standing up to the nonsense!
Per a statement from Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton that was released Tuesday, the Lone Star State has launched an investigation into USA Fencing over “potential violations of Texas state law.”
A Civil Investigative Demand was issued by Paxton, which is used by agencies in the government to gather information legally, following USA Fencing disqualifying a female fencer (Stephanie Turner) after she decided to take a knee in March in protest of having to compete against a biological male (transgender). The name of the trans opponent is Redmond Sullivan.
USA Fencing stated that Sullivan participating Mar. 30 at the Cherry Blossom Open (Maryland) didn’t break any rules that have been set up by the International Fencing Federation (FIE), the governing body of the sport. Not taking part in the matchup against Sullivan, Turner was given a black card by a referee and then removed from the tournament, per USA Fencing. According to Paxton, documents could be revealed in the investigation that shows USA Fencing, which is based in Colorado, took part in practices that are deceptive, misleading and false.
“USA Fencing is on the wrong side of history and potentially the wrong side of the law due to violations of Texas consumer protection laws,” stated Paxton in a news release. “USA Fencing’s policies are not only potentially illegal, but also deeply insulting to the young women like Stephanie Turner who have sacrificed so much and dedicated countless hours to compete and succeed in competitions. I will fight to stop these unfair policies, and I will never back down from defending the integrity of women’s sports.”
USA Fencing has yet to issue a public comment on the investigation from Paxton.
