What was supposed to be a family-friendly adventure has turned into a chaotic display of unruly behavior, with teenage boys across the country transforming movie theaters into arenas of destruction during showings of The Minecraft Movie.
From popcorn-slinging to fistfights, the pandemonium has reached such heights that some theaters are implementing restrictions just to maintain order.
The movie, based on the beloved video game known for its emphasis on creativity and building, has ironically become a breeding ground for disruptive antics.
Elon Musk Called This Financial News ‘Terrifying’
According to social media videos and employee reports, groups of teen boys have been seen spilling soda, leaping onto seats, shouting during key scenes, vomiting in aisles, and in some cases, getting into physical altercations.
Law enforcement has even been called in to handle the escalating disorder.
One theater in Washington Township, New Jersey, has taken drastic measures, now banning unaccompanied minors from seeing the PG-rated film.
In a statement posted to Facebook, Township Theatre explained their decision: “A group of unruly boys engaged in completely unacceptable behavior, including vandalism. We also received multiple complaints from other moviegoers who were trying to enjoy the film with their families. Video footage of the incident has been obtained.”

In an effort to drive the message home, the theater also urged parents to step in.

“If your son was at Township Theatre last night, we strongly encourage you to have a conversation with him about his behavior,” the post read.
The heart of the chaos seems to erupt during a particular scene known among fans as the “chicken jockey” moment.
In this viral sequence, a baby zombie character rides a chicken, prompting a character to yell “chicken jockey!”
The scene has become a rallying cry of sorts for teens, who reportedly shout the phrase in unison while jumping on chairs and launching popcorn into the air.
But not everyone is amused. “It’s disgusting,” said a 16-year-old public school student in New York City, who asked to remain anonymous.
“I genuinely feel bad for the workers that have to clean it up. [People are] throwing food on the ground — it’s too much. The mess and the vomit or whatever.”

Those tasked with cleaning up the aftermath are feeling the pressure.
One theater worker described the challenge in a YouTube comment, saying, “These teens trashed every single theater playing this movie and since we have so many showings we had to clean them in less than 30 minutes as we had crowds outside the theater lined up to go inside!”
The disturbing stories continue to pile up online. “In my movie theater someone was yelling ‘WATER BUCKET RELEASE’ and threw a water bottle,” wrote one user.
Another recounted a more personal experience: “I got a whole bucket of popcorn dumped on my head.”
Some theaters are taking a proactive stance. An AMC employee from Newport Mall in Jersey City told The Post that their location warns audiences before the film begins that any rowdy behavior will result in immediate ejection. “We’re not taking chances,” they said. “It only takes one loud group to ruin the whole experience.”
Ironically, The Minecraft Movie has been criticized for its bland plot and middling reviews, but none of that seems to matter at the box office.

Since its release on April 4, the film — which stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, and Jennifer Coolidge — has shattered records, raking in $162.7 million in the U.S. and $150.7 million internationally, totaling a staggering $313.4 million.
That makes it the highest-grossing video game movie adaptation to date.
The plot follows four unlikely heroes who get pulled into the mysterious cubic world of the Overworld, a magical land powered by imagination.
There, they must navigate the bizarre terrain and work together to find their way back home.
Unfortunately, the real-world experience for many moviegoers has been far from magical. As theaters grapple with the unexpected surge in disruptive behavior, the question remains: will parental involvement and stricter policies be enough to bring order to what should be a lighthearted, pixelated adventure?
In the meantime, theaters are left to clean up the mess — literally and figuratively — while reminding fans that Minecraft was always meant to be about building things up, not tearing them down.
