Sunny Hostin complains about Democrats not walking out with rep who disrupted Trump speech

Daily Caller News Foundation

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin complained Wednesday that Democratic lawmakers did not “walk out” with Democratic Texas Rep. Al Green as was removed for disrupting President Donald Trump’s speech.

Green began shouting at the president during the speech on the House floor Tuesday night and ignored House Speaker Mike Johnson’s warnings to stop, prompting law enforcement to escort him out of the premises. Hostin praised Green for being the “opposition” in the room and shamed his Democratic colleagues for listening to the remainder of the president’s speech.

“I was looking for signs of an opposition party which is what the Democratic Party must be at this point, not a resistance because resistance is passive. An opposition is active,” Hostin began. “I think what I saw when Representative Al Green stood up and said ‘you don’t have a mandate to take away Medicaid’ and he was tossed out, I expected the rest of his Democratic caucus, the rest of his colleagues to walk out with him because alone you can survive, but together you thrive. That is the energy that they need, they should’ve stood in solidarity.”

WATCH:

Before Trump’s speech, Democrats said they would protest the president’s address, with some not attending the speech at all and others bringing with them former federal employees who lost their jobs due to the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) efforts to eliminate wasteful government spending. Many congressional members also held signs up during the speech that read, “[Elon] Musk Steals” and “Save Medicaid.”

Just hours before the speech, 22 Democratic senators released identical videos on social media condemning the president’s economic policy, complaining how egg prices are rising and shaming Musk for shutting down so-called “vital government programs.” Before the address, far-left Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar told MSNBC’s Jen Psaki that people “shouldn’t be surprised” to see “coordinated” efforts from lawmakers to send a “message” to the president during the speech.

While he gave his speech, Trump celebrated how illegal border crossings reached a record-low at the U.S.-Mexico border, honored angel mothers whose daughters died at the hands of illegal immigrants and awarded a 13-year-old brain cancer patient with a Secret Service badge. Many Democratic members did not applaud the teenage boy’s major milestone.
