LIVE: Starmer and Cooper Open People Smuggling Summit With Speeches
Labour is hosting foreign ministers for an “Organised Immigration Crime Summit” at Lancaster House. Over the weekend Yvette Cooper said the government was still “looking at” third-country processing for asylum claims. The government has announced two policies to go with its summit:
- A new £33 million fund to “disrupt people-smuggling networks and boost prosecutions.” That’s three and a half days of state spending on migrant hotels…
- A new international wing of the CPS. Paying foreign prosecutors to arrest people smugglers…
