Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) delivered another one of his trademark one-liners during an appearance on Fox News’ Hannity, taking aim at Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in a segment discussing the future of the Democratic Party.

Kennedy appeared on the program alongside fellow Republican senators for a brief panel discussion hosted by Sean Hannity.
During the segment, which focused on emerging figures within the Democratic Party, Kennedy made comments about Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), suggesting the party’s rising stars may be a liability rather than an asset heading into future elections.

Referring specifically to Ocasio-Cortez, Kennedy said, “I’ve said about her before; I think she’s the reason there are directions on a shampoo bottle.”
The comment, made just before a commercial break, drew laughter from his Republican colleagues on set.
Kennedy continued, “Our plan for dealing with her is ‘Operation Let Her Speak,’” implying that the New York congresswoman’s public statements are more damaging to her own party than helpful.

The segment aired as part of broader coverage of political developments heading into the 2026 midterm cycle.
Republican lawmakers have increasingly targeted high-profile Democratic representatives such as Ocasio-Cortez and Crockett, arguing that their progressive platforms are out of step with the concerns of everyday voters.
Ocasio-Cortez, who has served in Congress since 2019, is a member of the House Financial Services and Oversight Committees and a prominent figure within the Democratic Socialists of America.
She has been a vocal advocate for policies such as the Green New Deal and Medicare for All, positions that have drawn consistent criticism from Republicans.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a freshman congresswoman from Texas, has also gained attention for her alignment with progressive causes and her presence in recent high-profile hearings, including those involving investigations into the Biden-Harris administration.
During the Fox News segment, Kennedy and others suggested that the Democratic Party’s reliance on its progressive wing could prove problematic with swing voters.
Though the discussion was cut short for a scheduled break, Kennedy’s remarks were widely circulated on social media shortly after airing.
The Louisiana senator is known for his colorful commentary and sharp retorts during interviews and congressional hearings.
He has previously made headlines for his remarks on various topics ranging from judicial nominations to economic policy, often using humor to underscore his criticism of Democratic leadership.
Ocasio-Cortez did not issue an immediate response to Kennedy’s latest remarks. Crockett has also not responded publicly to the discussion on Hannity.
The exchange comes as both parties begin shaping their messaging ahead of the next round of national elections.
Republicans have indicated they plan to highlight divisions within the Democratic Party, particularly between traditional liberals and progressive newcomers, as a central theme in their 2026 strategy.
Sen. Kennedy’s comments mark another instance of Republicans using media appearances to frame their opponents through soundbites and direct rhetoric.
Whether the strategy resonates with voters remains to be seen, but Kennedy’s remarks have already gained traction online among conservative audiences.
