Record High Wages for Council Staff as Taxpayers Hit By ‘Awful April’ Bills

The Taxpayers’ Alliance have today released their annual Town Hall Rich List. This one breaks records…

A record 3,906 council staff are pocketing total remuneration of £100,000 or more in 2023-24, a whopping 26% increase on last year. At least 238 bureaucrats took home over £200,000 – at least £33,000 more than the Prime Minister…

This comes as taxpayers wake up to hikes to council tax – something Starmer promised to freeze in opposition. Fun-sponge Westminster Council tops the ‘Town Hall Rich List’ with 73 staff earning at least £100,000. John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said:

“It’s a record-breaking year for taxpayers—but for all the wrong reasons. While hard-working Brits face the highest tax burden in history, the public sector is busy feathering its own nest. Council tax is rising above inflation, services are being slashed, yet the number of six-figure town hall salaries has surged. It’s a disgrace.”

Meanwhile, Starmer and Jonathan Reynolds are busy spinning ‘Awful April’ as Labour ‘delivering on living standards’. Working people may have a different view when their pay packets are swallowed by bureaucrats’ bills…
