QVC cutting 900 U.S. employees while turning out the lights in Florida

QVC Group, owner of the eponymous TV channel as well as HSN, announced this week it would lay off 900 U.S. employees.

Many of the 900 were let go Thursday while others are staying on a few months to help HSN move from Florida to West Chester, Pennsylvania, home of QVC.

The company said the layoffs are part of a growth strategy to boost revenue and maintain its income margins. HSN, previously called the Home Shopping Network, in January said it would close its St. Petersburg campus this year.

Many of the employees being laid off were based in Florida.

“In the first phase of the closure, 145 employees, out of approximately 730 who will ultimately be impacted, at that location will be laid off on May 26, 2025, or during the 14-day period commencing on that date. Additional layoffs have been planned for July 1, 2025, and future dates in 2025,” QVC Group told the Florida Department of Commerce in a work adjustment and retraining notice on Thursday.

The company had around 17,000 employees as of Dec. 31, according to a filing the company made to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

QVC Group is also pivoting to expand on social media and streaming platforms.

“Live social shopping is a natural evolution for us. We have always been live on television, and our programming has always had this deep human and social component. Our customers are spending dramatically more time on social media, and that is increasingly where they are finding inspiration and shopping,” QVC CEO David Rawlinson II said in November.
