Last night YouGov published polling showing Brits rejecting Starmer’s “I negotiated us a lower tariff rate” spin by 47 points to 29. As it turns out there’s another party leader they trust to negotiate the UK out of this one…

New polling by Freshwater Strategy seen by Guido has Nigel Farage topping the list when it comes to who Brits trust to negotiate with Trump. Among 1,250 Brits polled from 4-6 April 34% favour the Reform leader compared to 27% for Starmer. Then it’s a sharp drop to 13% for Badenoch and 6% for LibDem stuntman Ed Davey. Starmer’s ‘Trump-whispering’ hasn’t been paying dividends so far…

Farage for his part has begun to publicly criticise Trump more. He pushed back against tariffs this week: “I think it’s a bit excessive. Yes, I really do. Although he promised he’d do it in the run-up to the American election. So you can’t say he’s breaking his promises, but I think the impact of it – my own view – is the impact of it has been bigger than he could have predicted.” Brits clearly think Starmer should bring Nigel to the White House next time…
