Piers Morgan Says Debating Sports Fairness Isn’t Transphobic — It’s Common Sense [WATCH]

Television host Piers Morgan confronted transgender activist Stassia Underwood during a heated exchange on his show, Piers Morgan Uncensored, Friday night, after Underwood accused him of attempting to “eradicate trans people” for opposing biological men competing in women’s sports.

The discussion centered around growing public backlash against male-born athletes identifying as female and participating in women’s sports competitions — a policy supported by several progressive groups but opposed by most Americans.

“No place is more glaring than in the sporting arena where you see time and again now, biological men who identify as trans who were pretty unsuccessful competing against other biological men and suddenly they’re winning against women or taking Olympic places from women,” Morgan said during the segment.

“The [United Nations] came out with nearly 900… medals I think in the last year went to trans athletes in women’s sports. This cannot be right, it’s not fair, it’s not equal.”

Morgan continued, “We are now reaching, to me, not just an unfair and unequal place in this debate but a dangerous place.”

Underwood pushed back, saying the conversation about transgender athletes was being used as a broader political tool.

“I feel that there’s so much attention being put onto this specific subject because what you guys really want underlying is the eradication of trans people and for them to not be involved in any systems,” Underwood said.

The accusation sparked immediate reactions from the other guests.

Reporter and television personality Emily Austin called the claim “the dumbest argument [she] has ever heard,” while Morgan labeled it “ludicrous.”

Morgan challenged Underwood directly: “Where have you got that from? Where is any of what I have ever said?”

Underwood pointed to unspecified past interviews, including one with trans activist Blossom Brown, but did not cite any specific quotes.

“I have seen certain things that you have said in other interviews, Piers,” Underwood said, before Morgan cut in to demand clarity.

“What was transphobic?” Morgan asked.

“What have I ever said that could be remotely construed as transphobic or trans-hating or wanting to get rid of trans people, ever? I challenge you right now, tell me.”

Underwood declined to respond with specific examples, saying instead that her accusation was not directed at Morgan personally.

Austin then stated that this type of rhetoric is not resonating with the American public.

Morgan added that such accusations are commonly used to shut down serious debate and avoid addressing concerns about fairness and safety in women’s sports.

Morgan concluded the segment by proposing that trans-identifying athletes either compete with male athletes or, if possible, create separate divisions for transgender competitors.

Underwood argued that such a system was not viable due to the relatively low number of trans athletes, and said it “does not make sense.”

The segment aired shortly after President Donald Trump signed an executive order on February 5 barring biological males from participating in women’s sports — a policy widely supported by the public.

A January survey by The New York Times and Ipsos found that 79% of Americans believe men should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports.

A Harvard CAPS-Harris poll released in February showed that 69% of respondents also supported a ban on male-born athletes competing in women’s divisions.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education determined that Maine violated civil rights laws by continuing to allow biological men to compete in women’s sports, resulting in the state losing federal education funding.

A poll released by the University of New Hampshire on March 31 showed that a majority of Maine residents agree with banning men from women’s competitions.

The debate continues to draw national attention as more states and federal agencies reevaluate their policies on gender identity and athletic competition.
