Over half of constituents think House Dems aren’t doing good job: Poll

Daily Caller News Foundation

The majority of Americans in House battleground districts hold an unfavorable view of congressional Democrats, according to a poll published Wednesday.

Only 39% of voters gave Democrats in Congress a favorable rating, while the majority, 58%, rated them unfavorably, according to a survey from Navigator Research, a left-of-center polling group. Meanwhile, congressional Republicans received a 43% favorability rating alongside a 54% unfavorable rating.

Of those surveyed, 54% believe that Democrats in Congress focus more on helping other people rather than “people like me.” Meanwhile, seven in ten voters believe Democratic lawmakers are “too focused on being politically correct,” according to the poll. A slim majority of voters, 51%, believe that congressional Democrats are “elitist,” the poll found.

The poll also found that some self-identified Democrats were dissatisfied with congressional members in their own party, with 23% expressing unfavorable views toward Democrats in Congress. Comparatively, just 9% of Republicans surveyed said they held unfavorable views of congressional members in their own party.

There have been a growing number of reports that the Democratic party has been struggling to decide on clear messaging in the aftermath of President Donald Trump’s victory in the November 2024 presidential election. Relatedly, some Democratic lawmakers faced criticism for attempting to protest Trump’s March 4 address to a joint session of Congress.

Former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo on March 6 that he believes “the Democratic Party is on the verge of collapse” due to their animosity toward Trump. Pollster Frank Luntz said on March 6 that Democrats are much “worse” communicators than Trump after their controversial behavior at his recent congressional address.

Notably, Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin wrote in a Feb. 18 memo that Americans “now see the Republicans as the party of the working class and Democrats as the party of the elites.”

Navigator Research surveyed 1,500 likely 2026 general election voters in 62 battleground congressional districts between Feb. 21 to Feb. 25. The margin of error for a sample of this size is plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
