While Starmer’s grand promise of a quango ‘bonfire’ lasted just three days, leaving a 28th new one in his wake, the wasteful spending across public bodies continues unabated. This latest one might give co-conspirators a shock…

UK DOGE’s The Waste Files has uncovered that Ofgem – the quango tasked with regulating energy prices – has just handed out a staggering £10 million four-year contract to IT company Stone Technologies. The taxpayer cash will go on supply of laptops, smartphones, table devices and repair services for broken devices. Given that Ofgem employs 2,205 people, that budget could have provided each staff member with the latest iPhone 16e, a fresh MacBook Air, and four years of AppleCare to fix any broken devices, for a total of just £5,269,950. That’s a £4,730,050 gap there…

For £4,730,050 you could:

  • Buy 3,941 NHS hospital beds.
  • Hire 187 British Army privates.
  • Pay for 42,613 households to avoid the annual 6.4% rise in energy costs.

The taxpayer may have a view on which should be prioritised. UK DOGE recommends costs are cut here…
