MPs Call for Weapons Manufacturers to Be ‘Ethical Investments’ in Labour U-Turn

Over 100 Labour MPs and peers signed an open letter urging financial businesses to “sweep away ill-considered anti-defence rules,” calling on banks, investors, and pension funds to treat weapons manufacturers as “ethical” investments. They’re calling for the loosening of environment, social and governance, so more money can go to the industry to arm Ukraine and the UK. Guido reminds co-conspirators of the times Starmer’s top team were so arms friendly:

  • January 2021: Lisa Nandy backed plans to replace Armed Forces with ‘Human Security Services,’ focusing on human security and reducing violence in war.
  • March 2021: Lisa Nandy said she was ‘baffled’ by the Government’s decision to increase the UK’s nuclear weapons stockpile.
  • September 2019: David Lammy spoke at a CND event, stating that nuclear disarmament was one of the causes that brought him into politics.
  • July 2016: David Lammy said there are no circumstances in which it would be ‘permissible’ to use nuclear weapons.
  • July 2016: David Lammy called Trident ‘senseless,’ stating, “The threat of nuclear attack seems far more remote… but many of us now seem to have lost sight of the senselessness of stockpiling these weapons.”
  • July 2016: David Lammy said “The idea of loving thy neighbour and protecting our world for future generations simply cannot hold if we have stockpiles of weapons that can destroy our neighbours and our world.
  • July 2016: David Lammy and Angela Rayner voted against renewing the nuclear deterrent Trident.

Labour suddenly now being the party for investing in weapons manufacturing is quite the U-turn from its previous positions…
