What’s golf without a little drama?
Over the past few years, professional golfer Fred Couples has kept it a complete bean about his negativity towards LIV Golf and the players who compete in the Saudi-backed league, with the legendary Phil Mickelson being no exception.
Back in 2023, Couples blasted Mickelson as a “nutbag” prior to jabbing at the Saudis for handing him “$200 million at age 53 to shoot 74 and 75, God bless you.” But it’s not just a negative past that the two sides have, there’s also some positivity as the two once were Ryder Cup teammates. On top of that, Mickelson was a vice captain for Couples. Oh, how times have changed.
Over the last few months, the tension has thinned out between Mickelson and Couples. But it looks like things have sparked back up following Couples’ comments about Brooks Koepka, a fellow LIV superstar of Mickelson’s. Recently, Couples was being interviewed on Seattle’s Sports Radio 93.3 KJR, and during so, he made the claim that Koepka “really wants to come back and play the [PGA] Tour.”
Not the worst thing ever said, sure, but it was enough to piss off Mickelson. In fact, he even said Couples pulled a “low class jerk move.”
“Do you want Brooks back on the PGA Tour?” asked Mickelson to Twitter followers in a reply to a post from Golf Digest.
“If it’s not true he damaged a relationship which he cares about. If it is true he took away Brook’s [sic] control of the timeline and narrative. Either way this is a low class jerk move by Fred,” said Mickelson in a post that has since been deleted.

We really need to start letting golfers fight … at the very least, box. So much drama and sh*t-talkin’ in this sport.
