Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) drew widespread attention on Wednesday morning for a post she published on social media platform X, in which she claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris was disqualified in the 2024 election “due to her race & or sex,” and used profanity to describe the opposing candidate.
The comments sparked renewed debate about decorum in public office and the state of political discourse in Washington.

In her post, Crockett wrote:
“Sooo… I’ve said this before. This election was the best example of why (Diversity Equity & Inclusion) matter. For some, they just disqualified her simply due to her race & or sex… they never listened to what she had to say & were dismissive & disrespectful, while giving the benefit of the doubt to a mf who literally said he had ‘concepts’ of a plan & flat out lied about project 2025. He was & still is UNQUALIFIED & UNFIT to lead OUR Country.”

The term “mf,” widely recognized as an abbreviation for a vulgar profanity, was aimed at President Donald Trump, who was reelected in November 2024.

Crockett’s statement referred to Trump’s comments on Project 2025, a broad policy planning initiative for a potential second term, which became a point of contention during the campaign.
Crockett’s remarks were made in the context of defending Vice President Kamala Harris, who was defeated in her party’s primary contest and later in the general election.
Crockett argued that Harris was not given a fair evaluation by the public, attributing her loss to discrimination based on race and gender.

Her post has generated criticism from across the political spectrum, including from the White House. Spokesperson Harrison Fields responded in a statement:
“Crockett and her followers in the Democratic Party are simply all hammer and no nail. When she’s leading the Democrats in ‘oversight,’ that’s when you know the party is in shambles. Her constituents should DOGE her in the next election.”
The post and its language have prompted calls for greater accountability and professionalism from elected officials.
Crockett, a first-term congresswoman from Texas, has gained visibility within the Democratic Party since joining Congress, particularly through her role on the House Oversight Committee.
This is not the first time Crockett has drawn national attention. She has been vocal on issues including racial equity, criminal justice reform, and government oversight.
Her critics have accused her of focusing on partisan attacks rather than policy solutions, while supporters have praised her for speaking bluntly on issues of systemic inequality.
The comments arrive as the Democratic Party continues to grapple with internal divisions following a poor showing in the 2024 general election.
President Donald Trump’s reelection marked a significant shift in political momentum, and Democrats have since faced questions over party leadership, direction, and messaging.

While some in the Democratic base have praised Crockett for what they describe as speaking truth to power, others have expressed concern that such rhetoric may alienate moderate voters ahead of the 2026 midterms and the next presidential cycle.
There has been speculation in Democratic circles about rising figures within the party, and Crockett’s name has appeared in early conversations about the party’s future leadership. Whether her recent remarks will impact that trajectory remains to be seen.
Crockett has not issued a follow-up statement as of Thursday afternoon. The White House has indicated it will continue to focus on advancing its policy goals under President Trump’s leadership and expects Congress to uphold standards of public discourse as legislative sessions resume.
