A Fox News correspondent faced physical resistance from Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and evasion from other Democratic lawmakers while questioning them about their reactions to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.
Johnny Belisario, reporting from Capitol Hill on Thursday, pursued Democratic members of Congress who remained seated during key moments of the speech, including when Trump recognized the mother of Laken Riley and promised to protect women’s sports from biological males.
As Belisario pressed lawmakers for explanations, many Democrats avoided answering, quickly retreating to elevators and offices.

Omar, visibly frustrated, physically pushed Belisario away when he attempted to ask why she didn’t stand during Trump’s remarks.
“You need to move,” Omar said while shoving the reporter before closing the elevator doors. “Have a good day! I need to go to a meeting.”
Several prominent Democrats refused to engage when asked about their reactions to Trump’s speech. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) dismissed the question, saying there wasn’t much worth applauding.
“The president got before the American people and didn’t talk about how he’ll drive down grocery prices,” Booker said as he hurried to another engagement.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) also declined to acknowledge any positive moments in Trump’s speech, stating, “There was nothing the president said that was factual or truthful,” before disappearing into a private meeting.
Some lawmakers outright denied being present during the address.
When asked why she remained seated, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) responded, “I don’t know what you’re talking about, or where you got that information.”
In one exchange, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN), who was in a wheelchair, avoided answering a question about allowing biological men in women’s sports.
As Belisario repeatedly pressed him, Cohen responded, “Shorts? They should not be in shorts,” pretending not to understand before rolling away.
Tensions within the Democratic caucus boiled over when Rep. Al Green (D-TX) was ejected from the House chamber for disrupting Trump’s speech by shouting while waving his cane.
The fallout led to Green’s formal censure, which prompted further Democratic protests.
A group of Democratic lawmakers attempted to block the House floor and began singing in an effort to drown out Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) as he addressed the chamber.
While some Democrats defended Green’s actions, others privately expressed concern about how the theatrics played out on television.
One Democratic strategist told Politico that the display only highlighted Trump’s dominance in Washington.
“Many of their callouts were very silly and unserious, but I can’t help but feel some level of empathy for them,” the strategist said.
“I’m sure they feel like they have to do something, anything … That wasn’t it.”
