‘His miserable life was terminated’

President Donald Trump delivered another example of “peace through strength” as he announced what had come of the “miserable life” of a key ISIS leader on the run.

More than narrative-driving catch phrases like “Build Back Better,” nearly two months back in the White House for the commander-in-chief had been spent fulfilling promises made to the American people. This included efforts to keep the United States safe from terrorists as a confirmed strike terminated the “Global ISIS #2 leader” in a joint operation with U.S.-led coalition forces and the Iraqi national intelligence service.

In addition to sharing footage of the strike from U.S. Central Command, White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino shared the president’s Truth Social post on the strike that read, “Today the fugitive leader of ISIS in Iraq was killed. He was relentlessly hunted down by our intrepid warfighters. His miserable life was terminated, along with another member of ISIS, in coordination with the Iraqi Government and the Kurdish Regional Government. PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH!”

Additional details of the airstrike in Iraq’s Al Anbar Province against Abdallah Maki Mosleh al-Rifai, also known as “Abu Khadija,” were provided in a release from CENTCOM that explained how they took out “Global ISIS # 2 leader, chief of operations and the Delegated Committee Emir” along with another ISIS operative. In addition to being discovered with a number of weapons, both were said to have been wearing unexploded “suicide vests” at the time of the strike.

The terrorist was said to be responsible for the “operations, logistics, and planning conducted by ISIS globally,” along with being in charge of “a significant portion of finance for the group’s global organization.”

A statement from Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM’s commander, added, “Abu Khadijah was one of the most important ISIS members in the entire global ISIS organization. We will continue to kill terrorists and dismantle their organizations that threaten our homeland and U.S., allied and partner personnel in the region and beyond.”

The March 13 strike came less than ten days after the president had announced during his address to Congress that a terrorist charged for his alleged role in the 2021 bombing of the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, that killed 13 U.S. service members at the Abbey Gate, had been extradited to the United States to face the “swift sword of American justice.”

Mohammad Sharifullah was said to have been detained in Pakistan throughout most of the final year of President Joe Biden’s administration and, as it was reported, information from Biden’s CIA had been integral in Pakistan’s arrest of the man who they attempted to use to locate other members of ISIS. It was only under the direction of Trump making it “a priority…to find the people responsible” for the Abbey Gate bombing that Sharifullah was taken into U.S. custody.

The contrast in leadership was noted in more than one way as one social media user commented, “Honestly feels wild having a president even awake at 10pm let along hunting people down. Thank you for keeping us safe, sir.”
