Harris Faulkner asks Dem contributor what ideas Dems have to ‘improve the economy’

Daily Caller News Foundation

Fox News host Harris Faulkner suggested to Democratic contributor Leslie Marshall on Tuesday that the Democrats had not offered any ideas to make the economy better, even as they criticized President Donald Trump.

Some congressional Democrats have plans to bring egg cartons highlighting the increased price of eggs, noisemakers, or signs opposing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to Trump’s Tuesday night address to a joint session of Congress. After Faulkner asked Marshall about the reported antics, she then brought up whether Democrats had any proposals to address the economy.

“What should Democrats be doing? I mean, I understand the guest situation, but they have a lot of media today,” Faulkner said to Marshall. “All day long, there are those of us in the media business that are talking to anybody who wants to come up to the microphones and get the story before the president speaks. Why no positive messaging from Democrats?”

The price of eggs has almost doubled since November 2023, according to the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank, fueled by the culling of tens of millions of chickens in response to a bird flu outbreak. The price of groceries has climbed 23.6% since 2020, according to the Department of Agriculture.

“Oh, I don’t think it has to do with positive or negative,” Harris,” Marshall responded. “I think it has to do with fact or fiction. It is a fact that the tariffs will hurt the American people. Top economists have said that.”

“Well, what are their ideas for rescuing the economy?” Faulkner asked. Marshall then discussed protests at town halls held by Republican members of Congress over layoffs carried out by DOGE, which has identified roughly $105 billion in savings, according to its website.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) hit a four-decade high of 9% in June 2022 after then-President Joe Biden signed multiple spending initiatives into law, including the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, despite warnings that it could cause inflation to go up.
