On Tuesday morning, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts publicly defended District Judge James Boasberg after President Donald Trump called for the judge’s impeachment.
Roberts’ rare statement came in response to Trump’s criticism of Boasberg’s order to halt the deportation of criminal Venezuelan aliens, which resulted in planes carrying deported individuals being forced to return to the United States.

Trump’s call for impeachment came after Boasberg’s ruling, which directed authorities to bring back deported individuals, some of whom had been convicted of violent crimes.

Trump slammed the decision, arguing that it posed a serious security risk to American citizens.
Reports later surfaced that Judge Boasberg’s daughter has ties to organizations that work directly with illegal immigrants, a connection that was not disclosed during the case.
Instead of addressing the concerns over Boasberg’s ruling, Roberts rebuked Trump, stating that it was inappropriate to attack the judiciary over disagreements with court decisions.
Fox News host Greg Gutfeld sharply criticized Chief Justice Roberts on Tuesday night, calling out his public rebuke of Trump while ignoring the actions of activist judges attempting to obstruct the Trump administration’s policies.

During his segment, Gutfeld defended Trump’s reaction, arguing that the president is responsible for protecting the nation, not adhering to procedural formalities when dealing with decisions that threaten national security.
“Look, John Roberts says it’s not appropriate. It’s not an appropriate response when you disagree with the judge. It is really a surprise to me that Trump doesn’t follow the appropriate protocol when there are rapists and murderers invading our country.”
Gutfeld went further, calling out Roberts’ detachment from reality and emphasizing the president’s duty to secure the nation.
“Maybe a guy in a robe in DC can follow all the protocols, but Trump is the effing President of the United States who protects 300 million plus people. He is a leader who does not have the luxury of opening up his little books to read, ‘Oh, my God, maybe he didn’t do it the right way.’”
Gutfeld ended his remarks with a direct message to Roberts:
“Roberts, shut the F-up. This is something that a president has to do.”

Roberts’ comments mark one of the few times the Chief Justice has weighed in on direct criticism of the judiciary by a sitting president.
His decision to publicly challenge Trump while remaining silent on left-wing district court judges blocking administration policies has raised concerns over the growing politicization of the judiciary.
Meanwhile, Boasberg’s ruling remains a major point of contention, with Republicans and law enforcement officials warning that returning violent criminals to the United States jeopardizes public safety.
Trump’s hardline stance on immigration has long been a central issue of his presidency, and this latest legal battle further underscores the ongoing tension between the executive branch and activist judges attempting to undermine immigration enforcement.
