GOP House lawmaker proudly announces he’s unveiling bill to torpedo Trump tariffs

A Republican House member is breaking ranks to undercut President Donald Trump’s efforts to restore America’s economic independence.

U.S. Representative Don Bacon declared he will introduce a bill to give more power to Congress in the face of the president’s “Liberation Day” announcement of a 10% baseline tariff on all imports.

“It’s time that Congress restores its authorities here,” the Nebraska Republican told the host of “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan.”

The legislation is a companion bill to one introduced last week by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA).

“The measure, known as the Trade Review Act of 2025, would require the president to give Congress 48 hours’ notice before imposing or raising tariffs. The president would have to include an explanation and analysis of the potential impact, while lawmakers would have the ability to end the levy with a joint resolution,” CBS News explained.

“I have some support on the House bill, which we will unveil tomorrow,” Bacon said Sunday.

“I think if we get 60 votes in the Senate, they’ll put pressure on the House to look at this,” he said. “And if we continue to see the stock market go a certain direction, or if we see inflation or unemployment shift in a bad way, I think then this bill becomes a very viable bill.”

He added that the bill “will not pass tomorrow or maybe in the next couple of weeks, but this will be in the queue that we can use.”

But Republicans getting in the way of Trump’s agenda is not something voters asked for, and X users let the RINO Bacon know it.
