George Foreman Dead At 76

Two-time heavyweight boxing champion and Olympic gold medalist, George Foreman, died March 21 at the age of 76.

Foreman’s family issued a heartfelt statement on Instagram on the day of his passing. “Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones,” they said. His cause of death was not disclosed.

“A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.”

The family continued to pay tribute to Foreman by praising his most memorable qualities.

“A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, He was deeply respected — a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name — for his family.”

Foreman came from humble beginnings and pursued boxing at a young age. He won a gold medal at the Mexico City Olympic Games in 1968, at the age of 19. The very next year, he went professional.  His skills were undeniable.  Foreman won all 13 fights that year and all 12 fights in 1970. He was the number one challenger in the world by the end of 1971, with 32 wins, and no losses.

Foreman fought Joe Frazier and won the World Heavyweight Champion title by total knockout in 1973. He was one of the most remarkable competitors in the sport. Foreman lost his first title to Muhammad Ali in their historic Rumble in the Jungle fight in 1974. Overall, he boasted an impressive total of 76 wins including 68 knockouts, almost double that of Ali.

Foreman received title shots against Evander Holyfield in 1991 and Tommy Morrison in 1993, and lost both. He beat Michael Moorer in 1994 to reclaim his championship. His accolades are immeasurable, and his success in the ring over the course of his career was undeniable. He retired from boxing in 1977 and became a born-again Christian, devoting his life to his faith. He briefly resumed his career before retiring for good in 1999. His career ended with an astonishing 76 wins and 5 losses.

In later years Foreman became the spokesperson for the George Foreman Grill, which sold millions of units. He appeared on “The Masked Singer” in 2022, and was the executive producer for the  2023 biopic “Big George Foreman: The Miraculous Story of the Once and Future Heavyweight Champion of the World.”

Foreman was married five times. Foreman had 12 children, and five of which were sons that were all named George Edward Foreman. He is survived by his wife and 11 children. (RELATED: Dolly Parton Shares Devastating News Of Her Husband’s Death)

“We are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers, and kindly ask for privacy as we honor the extraordinary life of a man we were blessed to call our own,” his family wrote in their statement.

Fans worldwide have flooded social media with tributes, mourning the loss of a true legend and celebrating the incredible legacy he leaves behind.
