Gene Hackman Investigation Deepens as Strange Clues Emerge on Camera [WATCH]

As authorities continue to investigate the recent deaths of Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, newly released body camera footage is providing a deeper look into the scene and surrounding circumstances.

The couple was found deceased at their Santa Fe home in late February. Hackman was 95.

The footage, released by local authorities, includes audio and video of law enforcement officials speaking with two workers who initially reported concerns after seeing someone lying on the floor inside the residence.

Although there were no signs of forced entry or immediate evidence of foul play, both workers expressed unease about the scene.

“Something’s not right,” one of the workers reportedly told deputies, according to The Associated Press.

Early investigative considerations included the possibility of a gas leak or carbon monoxide exposure.

However, those concerns were later ruled out by investigators, who found no environmental hazards inside the residence.

The footage also captured interviews that highlighted personal concerns expressed by Betsy Arakawa in the months leading up to her death.

Her hairstylist, identified as Christopher, spoke with law enforcement and recalled that Arakawa had shared concerns about being followed by an unidentified man on two separate occasions in December.

“On two separate occasions. One occasion is when they went to White Rock,” Christopher said.

He told authorities that Arakawa described being followed by a man who had parked outside their gate and then trailed them to another location.

At one point, the man approached with a folder of photos, requesting Hackman’s autograph.

“She said, ‘Christopher, I’m surprised that security didn’t [know] how he got there… because when we left, I noticed that this car had followed us from the residence to White Rock,’” Christopher recounted.

He also said the man had offered the Hackmans a bottle of wine on a separate occasion, which they declined.

“That’s the scary part,” he added. “He knew what [they] drove.”

Christopher told police he had advised Arakawa against confronting the man. “I said, ‘Oh my gosh, Betsy, that’s crazy. You should not have approached this person. This makes me nervous,” he said.

Medical examiners later determined that Arakawa died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare respiratory disease transmitted by exposure to rodent droppings.

Hackman passed away roughly one week later.

His official cause of death was listed as hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with advanced Alzheimer’s disease noted as a contributing factor.

Due to Hackman’s cognitive decline, investigators believe he may not have been fully aware of his wife’s passing before his own death.

Following the couple’s deaths, the Hackman estate filed a legal motion requesting privacy protections.

A New Mexico judge approved a temporary restraining order preventing the release of images, video, and specific investigative records related to the deaths.

In the legal filing, the estate cited the couple’s long-standing desire to maintain a private life, stating that public dissemination of such materials would cause “irreparable harm.”

Hackman, a two-time Academy Award winner, had lived in relative seclusion in New Mexico with Arakawa for several years. The investigation into the circumstances around their deaths remains ongoing.
