Four men were arrested at a Chanel store in the District of Columbia on Friday after they used a fire extinguisher as a diversion in an attempted robbery, police say.
The suspects went into the store in the 900 block of I Street NW at 1:54 p.m. and set off the fire extinguisher, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a release.
Jamar Tolson, 38, is accused of then assaulting a security guard while the other three put $217,644.50 worth of merchandise into a duffel bag. The men then fled the store while busting a front door, but were apprehended by police.
None of the merchandise was successfully stolen and no one was injured, police told Washington’s WTTG. The group’s getaway vehicle, however, fled the scene.
Mr. Tolson, James Crumpler-Nichols, 32; Tyrik Hagood, 30; and Devin Wingate, 18, have been charged with robbery, second-degree burglary and destruction of property.
Mr. Tolson is also facing a charge of simple assault, MPD said.
