Former Michigan quarterbacks coach Matt Weiss is facing several major charges that stem from his 2023 exit from the Wolverines.
According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of Michigan, Weiss is up against allegations of illegally gaining access to student data. And he allegedly didn’t just do this to Michigan students, but to victims from around 100 schools throughout the country.
Weiss is facing 24 charges, with 14 being for unauthorized computer access and the other 10 for aggravated identity theft. (RELATED: Georgia’s Nitro Tuggle Arrested On Reckless Driving, Speeding Charges: REPORT)
Officials claim that Weiss committed his criminal actions from 2015-23, illegally gaining confidential information on over 150,000 students.
It was revealed in the investigation that he made female students specific targets, getting access to email, social media and cloud storage accounts of more than 3,300 people.

It’s also alleged that Weiss held on to records of female students that featured sexually-natured content.
Weiss’s alleged crimes were investigated by Michigan‘s on-campus police and traced back to the school’s Schembechler Hall, which is where Weiss worked on the job. As a result of the investigation, Weiss was put on administrative leave prior to ultimately being fired by Michigan just days later.
In Jan. 2023, Weiss’s Ann Arbor house was searched by police for what was originally branded as “computer crimes.”
U.S. Attorney Julie Beck issued a statement that addressed the Weiss investigation.
“Our office will move aggressively to prosecute computer hacking to protect the private accounts of our citizens,” said Beck. “We stand ready with our law enforcement partners to bring those who illegally invade the privacy of others to justice.”
