Fmr Democratic strategist says Dems can’t ‘out-Trump Trump,’ calls president ‘authentic street fighter’

Daily Caller News Foundation

Former Democratic strategist Dan Turrentine appeared on Fox News Friday to discuss the current tactics of the Democratic Party and called them “embarrassing.”

In an 18-second Instagram video, Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Lauren Underwood of Illinois, Katherine Clark of Massachusetts, Judy Chu of California, Jasmine Crockett of Texas and Susie Lee of Nevada mimicked characters from the “Street Fighter” video game, each striking martial arts poses. During an appearance on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Turrentine said that the Democrats‘ attempt to “out-Trump Trump” is a misguided strategy that misconstrues the nature of Trump’s appeal since “Trump is an authentic street fighter.”

“It’s embarrassing. I guess, fake it till you make it. I think a lot of them right now have kind of lost their minds. They’re trying to kind of out-Trump Trump. They’re not being who they are, right? Trump is an authentic street fighter. Like, it comes natural to him to do the taunts, to try to get in people’s heads,” Turrentine told host Jesse Watters.

Turrentine said last year’s election affirmed the electorate’s approval of Trump’s character and policies.

“We need to go back to just the basics here. First off, there was just an election. Voters approved of his character in conduct. And remember, it was his policies that got him elected,” Turrentine said. “The main things are the big things. And we need to get off of the juvenile taunts, the videos, the F-bombs, thinking that’s gonna appeal to voters, and talk to them and meet them where they are.”

Turrentine also said it’s important to address key economic issues, such as tariffs and the impact of cryptocurrencies like Dogecoin, which are vital concerns for many Americans.

“The economy right now, we’ve got some things to talk about on tariffs, on the Department of Government Efficiency. We need to be focused on the main things and not this silly stuff about videos and canes,” Turrentine said.

Before President Donald Trump’s inaugural joint address to Congress on Tuesday, 22 Democratic senators used small microphones to record themselves delivering a uniform script in tight close-ups, anticipating it would connect with Americans. In contrast to her colleagues, Democratic Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett shared a unique social media video before the speech, featuring herself dancing through a congressional building.
