FEMA director submits to polygraph in Kristi Noem’s hunt for ‘leakers’

A report revealed the “unapologetic” lengths Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was taking to “root out leakers” as focus was turned on the acting head of FEMA.

Weeks after the secretary had made clear her intention to see alleged leakers rooted out at DHS prosecuted by the Justice Department, Noem’s efforts to secure a cone of silence around her department had turned on the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Specifically, as detailed by Politico, acting Administrator Cameron Hamilton underwent a polygraph test regarding a meeting with two senior FEMA officials.

According to the report, on March 27, two days after the acting administrator had met with Noem and Corey Lewandowski, the so-called lie detector test was administered to determine if he had leaked any of the details of the meeting with officials.

The test was confirmed in a statement from Tricia McLaughlin, DHS assistant secretary for Public Affairs, who told Politico via email, “Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, DHS is unapologetic about its efforts to root out leakers that undermine national security. We are agnostic about your standing, tenure, political appointment or status as a career civil servant — we will track down leakers and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”

The private meeting with Noem and Lewandowski, a senior advisor to President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign who’d served as the first manager of his 2016 campaign, had been reportedly discussed with Politco’s E&E News by six different people as the outlet detailed her intent to “eliminate FEMA’s role in funding long-term rebuilding efforts … and halt multibillion-dollar grant programs that help communities prepare for disaster.”

Of course, the meeting itself had come the day after Noem had joined President Donald Trump with other officials for a Cabinet meeting where an update on border security had concluded with her asserting, “We’re gonna eliminate FEMA.”

On her efforts to combat leaks in the administration, the secretary had announced in early March that her team had “identified two leakers of information here at the Department of Homeland Security who have been telling individuals about our operations and putting law enforcement lives in jeopardy” amid the work of mass deportation of illegal aliens.

“We plan to prosecute these two individuals and hold them accountable for what they’ve done. We’re going to continue to do all that we can to keep America safe,” added the former governor of South Dakota.

After the previous administration had allocated considerable emergency relief funds toward the benefit of illegal aliens amid the Biden-Harris border crisis, FEMA had also come under fire when it was discovered that supervisors had been instructing relief workers to skip homes of hurricane victims who openly support Trump.

Following the agency’s investigation, Hamilton had detailed at least four supervisors had been terminated for failing to “meet our standards of conduct” and “in accordance with my commitment, and that of President Trump and Secretary Noem, to ensure that Americans receive impartial assistance from FEMA, I have directed a comprehensive additional training for FEMA staff to reinforce that political affiliation should never be a consideration in the rendering of assistance.”
