Feds say Trump’s would-be assassin tried to obtain military-grade weapons from Ukraine to do the job

Federal prosecutors are claiming that Ryan Routh, accused of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump, tried to obtain weapons from a Ukrainian contract.

Documents obtained by Fox News appear to show Routh asking an “associate” to “send me a rpg [rocket-propelled grenade] or stinger, and I will see what we can do… [Trump] is not good for Ukraine.”

The outlet reports that the two “discussed Routh’s purchase options, with Routh inquiring if his associate could ‘ship it to me???’ before explaining his intent for the military-grade weapons: ‘I need equipment so that Trump cannot get elected.’”

Routh even suggested to his associate that weapons go missing “all the time on the battlefield” and “one missing would not be noticed,” the court records reportedly show.

At one point, Routh mulled over obtaining the RPG and sent a photograph of President Donald Trump’s plane along with the caption, “Trump’s plane, he gets on and off daily.”

The alleged attempted assassin’s defense team submitted filings accusing the authorities of employing “impermissibly suggestive” tactics during the questioning of a witness. They further allege that the witness “felt pressured to identify Routh because of the intense atmosphere created by the presence of multiple law enforcement agencies,” Fox reported.

“All of these circumstances created a heightened pressure to make the identification,” reads the filing. “It would not be difficult for any well-meaning individual to identify the one, and only, person law enforcement presented to them in this manner.”
