Ex-Clinton Pollster Torches the Democrat Party as ‘Out of Touch with the American People’ [WATCH]

Former Clinton pollster Doug Schoen criticized the current state of the Democratic Party during an interview Monday, stating that the party lacks leadership, a clear message, and fresh ideas.

His comments come in the wake of President Donald Trump’s March 4 address to Congress, where Democrats remained largely unresponsive throughout the 99-minute speech.

Speaking with guest host Charlie Hurt on Fox & Friends, Schoen said the Democratic Party is “out of step” with the American people and “exists only to oppose the Republicans.”

Schoen also responded to recent remarks by Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who claimed the party had not been bold enough in its approach.

“What I just heard was basically wrong from Adam Schiff. The Democrats were and are out of step with the American people,” Schoen said.

“The American people want to move in the direction Donald Trump is moving in terms of the budget, certainly the border. They probably don’t want to move as quickly as he does, but they see my party as rudderless, leaderless, without a message, strategy and out of touch with the American people. And I think the polls bear that out.”

A CNN poll released in March indicated that Democrats’ national favorability had fallen to 29%.

Schoen attributed that drop in support to the party’s lack of substantive proposals.

“I have been a centrist since the days when I worked for Bill Clinton in the White House,” Schoen said.

“I believe in a moderate Democratic Party. And right now, my party exists only to oppose the Republicans. It doesn’t have new ideas, fresh ideas, frankly any ideas other than oppose, which works if Trump is unpopular, but doesn’t work in a national election.”

The March 4 address by President Trump included a presentation by Secret Service Director Sean Curran, who awarded credentials to DJ Daniel, a 13-year-old cancer patient from the Houston area.

Daniel, who is battling brain cancer, received a standing ovation from much of the chamber after receiving the credentials and a hug.

Democratic lawmakers, however, remained mostly seated and refrained from applause, drawing criticism for their response.

Schoen also addressed growing divisions within the Democratic Party, pointing to recent backlash against Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., from progressive figures and lawmakers.

Schumer faced criticism for working with Republicans to pass a spending bill in March that avoided a government shutdown.

According to a March poll conducted by the left-leaning firm Data for Progress, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., leads Schumer by 19 points in a hypothetical 2028 Democratic Senate primary.

When asked by Hurt whether any Democratic figure appears poised to lead the party forward, Schoen was uncertain.

“At this point, I really don’t know,” Schoen said.

“Somebody like [Andy] Beshear, the governor of Kentucky represents one person who fit that. Gretchen Whitmer, Gavin Newsom, Josh Shapiro, usually it’s the governors, and frequently in the case of Carter and Clinton, a southern governor. But somebody could emerge in the way that Obama did in 2007 or 2008. Right now, Charlie, there’s no good answer to your question that I think myself or any other top Democratic strategist can answer with certainty.”

With President Trump continuing to implement his policy agenda and the Democratic Party facing internal rifts, the path forward for Democrats remains unclear as the 2026 midterm elections and 2028 presidential election cycle begins to take shape.
