Dylan Mulvaney Struggles to Defend Trans Athletes in Women’s Sports on Live TV [WATCH]

The debate over transgender athletes in women’s sports continues to spark controversy, but even high-profile trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney appeared to steer clear of addressing the issue directly.

During a recent appearance on The View, Mulvaney was asked about California Governor Gavin Newsom’s comments on transgender athletes competing in female sports.

Host Whoopi Goldberg introduced the topic, saying, “I wanted to ask you because there’s been all of this debate about whether transgender athletes should be able to compete, and last week, California Governor Gavin Newsom said that he thinks that trans athletes competing in girls and women’s sports was deeply unfair.”

Mulvaney responded with a lighthearted remark, joking, “I played a sport, I was six years old, and I was on a soccer team, but I assigned myself as the nurse.”

He added, “And so, in the words of Wicked, I am not that girl, but a dear friend of mine, Skyler, he is a trans athlete. His handle’s Pink Manta Ray. That’s someone who I really look to for guidance.”

Mulvaney also noted that he has only identified as transgender for three years, calling himself a “baby trans” and mentioning that his anniversary was the following day.

His response drew applause from the audience but did not address the question directly.

Newsom’s remarks came during the inaugural episode of his podcast, where he hosted conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA. Kirk pressed the governor on whether he would oppose allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports.

“Would you say no to men in female sports?” Kirk asked.

Newsom responded, “It’s deeply unfair.”

While acknowledging the competitive disadvantage that biological females face when competing against transgender athletes, Newsom also expressed empathy for those experiencing gender dysphoria.

“These poor people are more likely to commit suicide, have anxiety and depression,” he said.

He also criticized the way some people speak about transgender individuals, saying, “The way that people talk down to vulnerable communities is an issue that I have a hard time with as well.”

Newsom’s comments reflect a growing divide within the Democratic Party on the issue of transgender athletes in women’s sports.

While many Democratic lawmakers have supported policies allowing transgender participation in female competitions, public sentiment has increasingly shifted against the idea.

During the 2024 presidential campaign, Republicans effectively used the issue to rally voters, pointing to cases where female athletes lost scholarships, opportunities, and even suffered injuries due to competing against biologically male athletes.

Polling data has consistently shown that a majority of Americans oppose allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports, viewing it as a matter of fairness.

The issue has become a flashpoint in states across the country, with Republican-led legislatures passing laws to restrict transgender athletes from competing in female categories.

Mulvaney’s reluctance to engage in the debate reflects the controversy surrounding the topic, particularly among progressive activists who have struggled to reconcile gender ideology with fairness in sports.

While some advocate for unrestricted inclusion, others, including Newsom, have begun to acknowledge the fundamental differences between biological men and women in athletic competition.

The discussion surrounding transgender participation in sports is likely to continue, as lawmakers, athletes, and voters grapple with the implications of policies that impact both transgender individuals and female competitors.
