Donald Trump Tells GOP to ‘Close Your Eyes and Get There’ on Key Budget Bill [WATCH]

During a speech at the National Republican Congressional Committee’s annual dinner on Tuesday, President Donald Trump called on House Republicans to support the Senate-passed budget resolution critical to advancing his economic agenda, as reported by The New York Post.

“They have to get there,” Trump said. “And I think we are there. We had a great meeting today. I think we are there. But just in case there are a couple of Republicans out there – you just gotta get there, close your eyes and get there!”

The president stressed the urgency of passing the budget, warning it would be a “disaster” for both the Republican Party and the country if the bill fails in the House. “It is a phenomenal bill. Stop grandstanding,” Trump said.

The legislation, referred to by Trump as “one big, beautiful bill,” is seen as essential for fulfilling key components of his campaign agenda, including extending the 2017 tax cuts and removing federal taxes on tipped wages.

At least 10 House Republicans have reportedly voiced opposition to the budget framework, and several others have publicly criticized it.

Hard-line conservatives in the House have raised concerns about the Senate version’s call for only $4 billion in spending cuts, compared to the House’s push for at least $1.5 trillion in reductions.

Some members have also objected to the Senate’s assumption that extending the Trump-era tax cuts would not contribute to the federal deficit.

Trump dismissed those holding out for additional concessions, warning that failure to act would result in no progress. “You end up getting nothing,” he said.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), who also spoke at the dinner, described the Senate’s budget bill as “one of the most consequential pieces of legislation that Congress has passed in decades – and perhaps in the history of the Congress.”

Johnson pointed out that the House’s narrow seven-seat Republican majority still provides some flexibility. “It means that we can lose three votes now and still pass a bill,” he said. “It’s an embarrassment of riches. I tell you, this job is so easy.”

Trump, 78, also highlighted his recently announced reciprocal tariff policy, which is set to go into effect against about 90 countries after midnight. He suggested that the move adds pressure on GOP lawmakers to support the budget.

“I have to say, it’s going to be legendary,” he said of the new tariff plan.

He defended the policy’s impact, stating, “We’re making a fortune with tariffs – $2 billion a day.” Addressing critics of the plan, Trump added, “Only the enemy can be talking this way.”

The budget resolution is considered a foundational step in delivering on legislative promises central to the Trump administration’s economic strategy.
