Democrats proved once again how much they enjoy love mindless government overreach by trolling an X post by Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah.
Lee proposed a bill, alongside Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Alabama, to abolish the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and establish private security at airports across the United States. The lawmaker claims the agency has “intruded into the privacy and personal space” of American travelers.
“The TSA has not only intruded into the privacy and personal space of most Americans, it has also repeatedly failed tests to find weapons and explosives. Our bill privatizes security functions at American airports under the eye of an Office of Aviation Security Oversight, bringing this bureaucratic behemoth to a welcome end. American families can travel safely without feeling the hands of an army of federal employees,” Lee told Fox News Digital in late March.
Leftists, including some elected officials, couldn’t help but troll the senator’s X post about the proposal:

Critics of the TSA have long maintained that the agency doesn’t actually do much to make flying safer. View from the Wing, a blog that discusses travel, notes that analysis of TSA efficacy is concerning, to say the least. The author of the piece even addresses concerns that the data (from 2015-2017) is out-of-date and doesn’t reflect current agency efficacy.
Should we ignore TSA’s own reported failure rates? The DHS Inspector General’s findings have been that 90% – 95% of dangerous items get through screening checkpoints in testing. Ben suggests that the data is from 2015 (in fact, it was still true in 2017) and so it’s too old to matter. However,
- We do not have any data to suggest things have been improved
- That’s because under Administrator Pekoske, the results of testing have just been classified.
TSA failure rates were embarrassing and their solution was just to no longer talk about it or admit it. Is their performance actually better? They won’t tell us!
At the very least, this information indicates that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) should look into the TSA, even if Lee can’t get enough congress members onboard to abolish it entirely.
