The congressional Democrats who misbehaved during President Donald Trump’s speech earlier this week have reportedly been getting dressed down by party leaders.
“House Democratic leadership is privately confronting members who disrupted President Trump’s speech to Congress,” Axios has confirmed, citing senior party officials.
“Leadership is ‘very unhappy’ with those who went beyond traditional protest tactics like outfit coordination and refusal to clap,” the reporting continues.
Around a dozen or so Democrats, including loud, belligerent ones like Reps. Jasmine Crockett and Al Green, were called in for what Axios’ source described as a “come to Jesus meeting” early Thursday morning.
This is Jasmine Crockett. She’s been a U. S. Rep. for the 30th congressional district in Texas since 2023. Take a moment and listen to her trash talk after walking out of President Trump’s speech last night. Crockett is pure trash. She’s an embarrassment to Texas and America! pic.twitter.com/q6CoqFY1Qy

Top Democrat leaders were present for the meeting, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Minority Whip Katherine Clark, and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar.
The only good news for the affected lawmakers like Crockett and Green was that they weren’t yelled at.
“It’s a consultative process,” Axios’ source said. “We understand the pressure they are under. They are not being talked to like they are children. We are helping them understand why their strategy is a bad idea.”
One Democrat who spoke anonymously to Axios said they weren’t surprised by the dressdown.
“It doesn’t surprise me leadership is very upset. They gave specific instructions not to do that,” the Democrat said. “Would they have done that to [Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi]? You know the answer: Never. So you’ve got to put the hammer down.”
The “instructions” were put forth by Jeffries a couple days before Trump’s address to Congress.
“I write with respect to President Donald Trump’s scheduled address on Tuesday to a Joint Session of Congress,” he wrote in a letter to his colleagues. “Given my responsibilities in the House, I plan to attend the speech, along with other members of the Democratic leadership, to make clear to the nation that there is a strong opposition party ready, willing and able to serve as a check and balance on the excesses of the administration.”
“The decision to attend the Joint Session is a personal one and we understand that members will come to different conclusions. However, it is important to have a strong, determined and dignified Democratic presence in the chamber. The House as an institution belongs to the American people, and as their representatives, we will not be run off the block or bullied,” he added.

Yet despite the letter, and despite Jeffries privately dressing down the misbehaving Democrats, publicly he’s reportedly been trying to cover everything up.
“House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries sidestepped questions Wednesday about Democratic lawmakers’ efforts to disrupt President Donald Trump’s address to Congress,” according to Politico.
“We’re going to keep the focus on the American people — that’s where the focus should be,” he said. “Republicans are crashing the economy in real time and trying to enact the largest cut to Medicaid in American history. That’s unacceptable.”
“[An] overwhelming majority of House Democrats approached the speech with the seriousness that it deserved on behalf of the American people,” he added.
Minority Whip Clark for her part publicly lashed out at Trump over his address, not her fellow colleagues, telling reporters she was angry.
“Let’s not talk about decorum when the plot is exposed and reiterated every single day,” she said.
Meanwhile, Jeffries is now facing backlash and calls for his resignation over his attempt to stop his colleagues from acting like fools during Trump’s address.
Look:
He @RepJeffries should resign. No backbone. No passion. No fight against white supremacists as in MAGA. He is a disgrace!!!!
