During a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) delivered a strong defense of the federal judiciary—only to be reminded by Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) that she previously co-sponsored articles of impeachment against two sitting Supreme Court Justices.

The hearing, titled “Judicial Overreach & Constitutional Limits On The Federal Courts,” addressed concerns raised by Republican lawmakers about the expanding role of federal judges and recent court decisions.
Crockett took the opportunity to push back on GOP criticism, warning of what she described as a potential collapse in the rule of law if Republicans continued challenging judicial authority.

“The problem that we have right now is that if we continue down this road, that we will not have a rule of law,” Crockett said during her remarks.
“Because we have people that are currently serving, and they’re saying things like, ‘Ignore the judge’s order.’”
She continued, “What it means to have law and order in this country is that you follow the order and you go through the appeals process—even if you dislike what the judge did.”
After Crockett concluded, Rep. Issa responded by pointing out that Crockett herself had recently co-sponsored impeachment articles targeting Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

“And I’m going to note that when Miss Ocasio-Cortez, or AOC as we know her, filed articles of impeachment on Justice Thomas and Alito, Miss Crockett was one of the co-sponsors along with Mr. Cohen, both members of this committee,” Issa said.
The remark was met with laughter in the hearing room.
Crockett attempted to respond, but Issa waved her off, continuing his statement without interruption.
“It does seem interesting that when the shoe is on the other foot, everyone is self-righteous, and I think this is a good example,” Issa added.
This is a must-watch.
Jasmine Crockett just went on a rant about how it’s so bad that @RepBrandonGill filed articles of impeachment.
Darrell Issa responded with a truth that Jasmine didn’t want you to know.

Crockett’s call to respect court rulings and uphold due process contrasted sharply with her past actions in July 2023, when she joined 18 other Democrats in co-sponsoring articles of impeachment against Justices Thomas and Alito.
The articles were introduced by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who questioned the legitimacy of the Supreme Court in her statement.
“Given the court’s demonstrated inability to preserve its own legitimate conduct, it is incumbent upon Congress to contain the threat this poses to our democracy and the hundreds of millions of Americans harmed by the crisis of corruption unfurling within the court,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
“Congress has a legal, moral, and democratic obligation to impeach.”
Other co-sponsors included high-profile Democrats such as Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Crockett herself.
The effort did not result in formal proceedings but was part of a broader campaign by progressive Democrats to challenge the Court’s direction and decisions on major legal issues.
The Tuesday exchange highlighted tensions within the committee and emphasized the ongoing debate over judicial authority, partisanship, and the role of Congress in overseeing the courts.
