A hit-and-run crash involving three vehicles on the Ventura Freeway in Los Angeles triggered a large-scale police manhunt Tuesday afternoon, ultimately leading to the arrest of one suspect and an officer-involved shooting involving Jillian Shriner, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner.
The incident began around 3 p.m. when California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responded to a multi-car collision on the eastbound side of the Ventura Freeway.
According to KTLA, three male suspects reportedly fled the crash site on foot, prompting CHP and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) units to initiate a neighborhood-wide search in the Eagle Rock area of downtown Los Angeles.

Footage from KTLA’s Sky5 helicopter showed officers arresting one of the suspects wearing only boxer shorts.
According to the outlet, the man had stripped down during his attempted escape and tried to blend into the neighborhood by jumping into a residential swimming pool and watering plants.
Eyewitnesses Alana Altmeyer and her brother Guy Binn saw the men fleeing from the scene and attempted to intervene.
“I saw a gentleman walking on the shoulder,” Altmeyer told KTLA.
“So my brother and I went over and assumed that he was leaving the scene of an accident.”

When the suspects realized they were being followed, they began running. One of the men fell while crossing the freeway but continued fleeing despite visible injuries.
“He was bleeding from his head, his mouth and his knees,” Altmeyer said.
The suspect eventually crossed the freeway and ran down an embankment.
Binn continued to pursue the man. “I chased him down the side of the freeway, across the freeway, over a couple of fences,” he told KTLA.
“He had a bag and a sweater. I got his bag. I got his sweater and me being so old, I couldn’t keep up with the guy. I chased him to the park, and I lost him.”
CHP officers later arrested the same man, now wearing only boxers, about an hour and a half after the initial crash.
Shortly after the suspect’s arrest, the police presence in the neighborhood led officers to a residence on Eagle Vista Drive.
There, officers encountered 51-year-old Jillian Shriner, who was reportedly armed with a handgun outside her home.
According to TMZ, police gave “numerous” commands for Jillian to drop the weapon.
When she allegedly pointed the handgun at officers, they opened fire, striking her in the shoulder.
She retreated inside the home but later exited with another woman, identified as the family’s babysitter, and surrendered.
Sky5 footage captured both women walking down the driveway with their hands raised before lying face-down on the ground.
Officers in tactical gear then placed them in handcuffs. A young boy was also seen exiting the home with his hands raised.
The Los Angeles Fire Department transported Jillian to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
LAPD officers reported recovering a 9-millimeter handgun from the residence.
According to TMZ, Jillian has been booked for attempted murder. Both she and the babysitter have since been released from police custody.
As for the original crash, one woman involved sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital.
No law enforcement personnel were injured during the crash or the subsequent shooting.
