‘Congress can limit the jurisdiction of the courts… but they’re on 2 weeks vacation’

As judicial activists continued obstructing President Donald Trump’s agenda, America’s governor reminded what Congress could be doing instead of spending “two weeks on vacation.”

Many of the same legislators who’d vocally decried the overreach of district judges issuing rulings against the executive authority of the Trump administration were quick to hightail it out of Washington, D.C. when Speaker Mike Johnson (R) dismissed the House early after the passage of a funding bill. Thursday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) put political theatrics on notice when he brought up congressional oversight of judicial jurisdiction.

Joining Fox News host Laura Ingraham in studio for her program “The Ingraham Angle,” the governor was asked plainly if the federal legislature would take action to codify Trump’s executive orders. regarding things like immigration, into law after a judge attempted to block the deportation of scores of alleged members of Tren de Aragua.

“If history is any judge, probably not. I mean, we’re talking about the courts,” remarked DeSantis. “Congress can limit the jurisdiction of the courts. That is plain in the Constitution. It doesn’t require 67 votes in the Senate. You can attach it to a CR, you can attach it to a must-pass bill.”

“They’re not even trying any of this stuff. We knew these leftist judges were gonna do what they’re doing. Everybody predicted that, Pres. Trump knew that…and what are they, they’re on two weeks of vacation now. Really?” slammed the governor. “That must be nice. I think they got a lot of work to do.”

DeSantis’ comment came amid a discussion on Trump’s executive order to dismantle the Department of Education to which Ingraham had suggested, “Congress is gonna ultimately have to take the step, yes, to really shut it down.”

“I think what Pres. Trump can do is, I think he can, from the inside, neuter the organization,” he replied. “But, it will not be wiped off the statute books by an executive order. That has gotta come from the Congress.”

The Florida executive had further reminded, “You can’t win a Republican primary, as a Republican, saying you want to keep the Department of Education. And so why aren’t they voting to codify? But this is like so many other things Pres. Trump’s done.”

“They’re not codifying his immigration executive orders. They’re not codifying these things. So, while this is good policy in the instant, we want it to stand the test of time. Congress has to be the ones to do that,” he added.

To DeSantis’ point, as Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley (R) promised to introduce legislation to address judges issuing nationwide injunctions, California Rep. Darrell Issa (R) had already advanced a bill out of the House Judiciary Committee earlier in March.

Following the governor’s remarks on Fox News, commentator David J. Freeman, known for his X account Gunther Eagleman, posted Friday, “Trump came into office and hit the road running. He has signed dozens of Executive Orders, almost entirely eliminated the invasion, and has made strides EVERYWHERE. All the while Congress is sitting, twiddling their thumbs. Let’s send @SpeakerJohnson and @LeaderJohnThune a message.”

“Let them know what you think about their lackluster performance,” he added as others joined in calling out the political theatrics that saw congressional leaders talking the America First talk without walking the walk.
