‘Common sense restored!’ Judge rules that Mahmoud Khalil can be deported

A Louisiana immigration judge cleared the way for the deportation of anti-Israel agitator Mahmoud Khalil, who led pro-Hamas demonstrations at Columbia University in New York City last year.

In a Friday ruling, Judge Jamee Comans found that the Trump administration’s argument that allowing the Columbia graduate student to stay in the U.S. could have “potentially serious foreign policy consequences” and ruled that the federal government’s case was “facially reasonable,” setting the stage for his removal pending the appeals process.

Khalil has been housed at the Lasalle Detention Facility in Jena, La., since he was apprehended by ICE agents last month as the government moves to crack down on the scourge of antisemitism on campus, which has exploded since Israel began its military operation against the Hamas terror organization in Gaza.

Judge Comans said that the government “established by clear and convincing evidence that he is removable,” giving the Jew-hating activist’s team until April 23 to respond.

“I would like to quote what you said last time that there’s nothing that’s more important to this court than due process rights and fundamental fairness,” Khalil proclaimed at the conclusion of Friday’s hearing.

“Clearly what we witnessed today, neither of these principles were present today or in this whole process. This is exactly why the Trump administration has sent me to this court, 1,000 miles away from my family. I just hope that the urgency that you deemed fit for me are afforded to the hundreds of others who have been here without hearing for months,” he added.

The White House celebrated the judge’s decision.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem also welcomed the news, bidding the antisemitic menace “good riddance” in a post to X.

“Mahmoud Khalil hates the United States and what we stand for—so his removal should come as welcome news,” she wrote.

“It is a privilege to be granted a visa or green card to live and study in the United States of America. When you advocate for violence, glorify and support terrorists that relish the killing of Americans, and harass Jews, that privilege should be revoked, and you should not be in this country,” Noem added. “Good riddance.”

X users also hailed the ruling as the restoration of common sense.

But the left won’t be easily deterred in its battle to keep Khalil from being kicked out of the country.

“The fight to bring Mahmoud home is far from over,” said ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project attorney Noor Zafar in a statement. “We will continue undeterred to press for his release after this startling escalation of the Trump administration’s war on dissent. We will fiercely defend his and others’ right to speak freely about Palestine or any other issue without fear of detention and deportation.”
