California Gov. Gavin Newsom may be attempting a subtle shift to the middle but he isn’t fooling the leftwing media.
One of his latest attempt to wash over his previous liberal policies was called out by none other than CNN in a brutal fact-check over his use of the term “Latinx.”
CNN editor and reporter Andrew Kaczynski spoke with host Erin Burnett about the Democrat governor’s memory lapse after he had claimed on his podcast that no one in his office had ever used the word that purportedly describes people of Latin American descent.
On CNN last night, played many videos
of Newsom using the term “Latinx”—despite now claiming no one in his office ever did—and praising the law that allows transgender women to compete in women’s sports, a law he suggested he had nothing to do with.pic.twitter.com/Ax181KadEO https://t.co/SOnYN3l9Hg— Andy Kaczynski (@KFILE) March 21, 2025
“Not one person ever in my office has ever used the word Latinx,” Newsom claimed during an interview with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. “I just didn’t even know where it came from. What are people talking about?”
The term has reportedly been highly unpopular – even offensive – among Latinos and Hispanics.
“But there was a person who used Latinx,” Burnett said on “Erin Burnett OutFront” on Thursday. “It was actually a really important person. It was him.”
Kaczynski pointed out how Newsom used to “champion” the same progressive issues that he now is trying to distance himself from. He then used clips to show how Newsom referred to “the Latinx community” and used the term on social media.
“You see there, that is a lot of use of ‘Latinx’ by him for somebody who said that nobody in his office has ever used that phrase,” Kaczynski said.
Newsom’s office told CNN in a statement, “Latinx is not a term that is regularly used by the administration.”
The reporter also called out the Democrat for trying to move away from a California law allowing transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports.
“It turns out in 2014, years before I was governor, there was a law established that established the legal principles that allow trans athletes in women’s sports,” Newsom told Kirk. “But the issue of fairness is completely legit. It is an issue of fairness and I think Democrats have lost that.”
“In that statement, he’s kind of making it sound like he wasn’t involved in this at all,” Kaczynski noted. “He’s like, ‘Oh it was 2014, years before I was governor.’ Like, you mean when you were the lieutenant governor? When you actively defended and praised that law?”
Official press releases and documents from Newsom’s office over the years showed that he and his administration repeatedly used the term ‘Latinx.’
RECEIPTS, PROOF, TIMELINE: @GavinNewsom boasted on this new podcast that “not one person ever in my office has ever used the word Latinx,” but a FOX News Digital review shows the Democrat governor’s claim could not be further from the truth — as resurfaced posts show he’s used… pic.twitter.com/dRiTqlgyvL
