As Republicans work to pass a continuing resolution (CR) to prevent a government shutdown on Friday, internal party divisions and opposition from Democrats remain key hurdles.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), a vocal critic of short-term funding measures, has raised concerns among some Republicans that he might oppose the bill.

However, during an interview on Fox & Friends on Sunday, Roy clarified his stance, expressing support for the spending bill despite lingering opposition within the party.

“There are still a few folks who don’t like it,” Roy said.
“Democrats desperately want to turn the lights off to stop Elon and DOGE because they know the American people are now getting a glimpse under the hood.”
With the GOP holding a narrow 218-214 majority, the party can only afford to lose one vote if all members are present.
If two Republican lawmakers oppose the resolution, it would result in a tie, allowing Democrats to block the bill.

Roy warned that Democrats are looking to exploit these divisions to gain substantial concessions in the final version of the bill.
Roy accused Democrats of deliberately pushing for the failure of the CR to force DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) to suspend operations.
Rep. Roy: “We need to support the president to be able to move the ball forward with a freeze in spending. I think that’s the right approach.
Freezing spending is good, holding defense in place so that we can re-modernize our military is good. Stopping Democrats is good. . .… pic.twitter.com/7ORksYto6f

Since its establishment under Elon Musk’s leadership, DOGE has reportedly uncovered significant waste and fraud within the federal government.
President Donald Trump weighed in on the debate Saturday, posting on Truth Social in support of the legislation.
“Very good funding bill put together by the House and Senate,” Trump wrote, urging Republicans to vote ‘yes’ when the measure comes up next week.
VERY IMPORTANT!

With Democrats looking to derail the CR, and internal GOP divisions still present, the coming days will be critical in determining whether Congress can avert a government shutdown before the Friday deadline.
