Radio host Charlamagne Tha God on Monday dismissed Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s defense of her party amid its dismal popularity.
The Democratic Party’s favorability has fallen 20% since January 2021 to a record low of 29%, according to a Sunday CNN/SSRS poll conducted March 6-9. Crockett had defended her party on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, arguing that it has effectively fought back against President Donald Trump, but Charlamagne suggested on “The Breakfast Club” that her remarks were futile.

“I can’t believe that poll is just coming to this conclusion. I feel like I’ve been saying this for years,” Charlamagne said. “You know what I mean? And Jasmine is great, but if I was a Democrat, I wouldn’t even speak for the party right now because the party is in shambles. The party is in disarray. The party has no leadership. The party has no messaging.”
“So I wouldn’t even speak for the party and try to act like the party has it all together because guess what?” he continued. “We all have eyes and we all have ears, and we can see that they don’t have any direction.”
Only 63% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents approve of their party, a nine-point drop from January and an 18-point decline since the beginning of former President Joe Biden’s administration, according to the CNN poll.
“I want to say, as you’re talking about the polling on my party, I want to say that it is the Democratic attorney generals and some governors that are standing up against this administration and bringing those lawsuits and winning every single time,” Crockett said Sunday. “They are losing in court. Could we do a better job of making sure that the American people know that we are winning in the courts? We probably could. But at the end of the day, it’s still Democrats that are winning for the American people.”
Moreover, only 27% of registered voters held a positive perception of the Democratic Party, an NBC News poll released on Sunday found, a record low in the outlet’s polling since 1990, it reported. Meanwhile, 55% of registered voters had a negative perception of the Democratic Party.
CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten explained on Monday how low Democrats’ popularity ratings are, based on the NBC News poll and his own network’s poll, along with Quinnipiac University polling on congressional Democrats.
“Holy Toledo, ‘voters’ views of the Democrats in Congress.’ Among all voters, disapprove 68%. And look at the approved number, just 21%, even lower than the Democratic Party at large,” he said. “This is the lowest on record for Democrats, according to Quinnipiac University polling.”
“You think these numbers are bad? Let’s go to this side of the screen. We’ll look at how Democratic voters feel. Get this, the plurality of Democratic voters disapprove of Democrats in Congress at 49%, and just 40% approve,” he added. “Horrible, horrible, horrible. Oh my goodness gracious. You just can’t get worse than these numbers.”
Former MSNBC host Chris Matthews and “Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski argued Monday that unchecked misinformation from Trump and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk are to blame for Democrats’ plummeting popularity.
“Nobody checks the facts anymore,” Matthews claimed. “And the lies are getting through to the American people.”
Brzezinski agreed, adding, “I do think there should be a war room, a central command and a person, a voice, a figure who can call out the disinformation.”
